Afterglow 2011 - Day 2 Sunday

I don't know why the dock outside of Cabin #2 was the hangout place tonight, but then again I don't know why all of the cousins hang out inside of Cabin #2. But I'm willing to accept any of them as long as they wear cardigans and bring drinks. Or if they are Susie.

This is one of my favorite pictures of the year because it properly conveys Kevin and Brian's life partner relationship. Brian wears the cardigan and goes big mug while Kevin drinks a PBR, points and cackles. Classic. Simply classic. Finally a picture says 1,000 words.

James and Melissa have lakes in Columbia, South Carolina. There's one called Lake Murray that is about a mile away from their house. They always tell me they go out there on a boat, but I promise you that it is nowhere near as great as a canoe on Afterglow Lake.

Unless you are one of those crazy bastards on The Deadliest Catch or a sea-loving ship captain, you can't spend too much time at sea before needed some dirt below your feet. Rez steered the boat in to port and James helped tie it up. Now that's some fancy teamwork.

Sunday is family day at Afterglow and we were celebrating the hell out of it. Even if there wasn't a set aside day to spend with your family I'm sure that we would do it anyway. Besides, how many pictures on here do you see of us hanging with non-family? Exactly.

Hippie jam band music was playing so it was inevitable that dancing and hooping would follow. Jenny brought all of her hoops up for recreational purposes but to me they seem like they are better suited for exercise. It takes a lot of work to spin a hoop around you so I just worked it around my arm. I don't exercise back home so why would I exercise on vacation? Kids today don't know the difference, so there goes childhood obesity.

Rez took the girls out for a second boat ride of the day, a twilight cruise if you will. I don't even get one boat ride a year, let alone two in one day. They are certainly among the elite. I sometimes sleep at night and dream of what it is like to be that lucky. Siting out there with a drink in hand, music from Jenny's portable iPod dock fills the air and Rez is searching the water for dinner. Show me anywhere else where life is sweeter.

You can take the man off of the water but you can't take away his will to fish. So while he attended to that Kevin drank PBR and the women were drawing attention to themselves. That's probably why I took this picture. But hell what do I know? That was like 6 months ago.

It was so nice to have Kelly up here again because it was just like old times. And before Susie gets all upset it's always great to have Susie here. And so Jenny doesn't get mad it wouldn't be the same without her. All you girls happy now? Good. Now I need to go get a drink.

Evenings at Afterglow are really nice as long as the bugs stay away. The sunsets are beautiful and the night has yet to come and bring on the cold. Which makes it perfect for sitting outside just hanging out.

I'm rarely in my own pictures because I get so snap happy taking pictures of everyone around me. Every now and then I need to step in front of the lens and remind everyone that I'm still there.

Mom looks like she could be sisters with Aunt Carol and Aunt Rose (who are really sisters but not really my Aunts) which would be sweet because then Kevin would be my real cousin. In a perfect world everything would work out. This is not a perfect world. That I know.
