Afterglow 2011 - Day 2 Sunday

Across the lake there is a dock (lovingly referred to as Alice Dock 2 or AD2) so that you can get out of the water for a breather after swimming out there. We didn't really need to rest but we had nothing better to do, so we made like fish out of water and went nuts.

When Kevin finds a friend he holds them tight and never lets go. That's because friends for Kevin are few and far between and don't come around that often. It's not that's he's not a nice guy or anything, it's just that most people have a hard time looking past the crazy and the cackle. I really don't blame them because those two aspects of his personality stick out like a sore thumb, but once you get down to the root of Kevin you come to understand that he is a good hearted person who has a way with words and loves to ride a plastic inflatable whale.

Many years ago (I wouldn't be surprised if it was over a decade ago) Kelly clung to the log when everyone else fell off and boldly proclaimed "I'm still on!" We've been teasing her about it ever since and she'll never live it down. That's what family is for.

After exhausting all of our stored up energy swimming back to the raft we went up on the HD to recuperate and Start the Revolution. After all, there is nothing better to do with our time on a Sunday afternoon. And I know that I wouldn't have it any other way.

There was a new Sheriff in this town and he was a lot meaner and tougher than the old ones. As Sheriff of the Fun Police I rounded up all the townfolk and made them have a good time by the only way I knew - by dipping themselves in the cool waters of Lake Afterglow.

Something happened to Uncle Greg, almost like he forgot how to rage. He no longer told outlandish stories and made up words of wisdom. So I guess it's a good thing that he passed The Revolution on to his son. Someone must carry that burden. I'm glad it's Brian.

Brian + Stacy joined us at the beach and temporarily gave up their designated positions of Fun Police. So now the people of Afterglow were going about their business without the proper authorities making sure that they were having a good time. Someone had to assume that role, which is why I donned the proper headwear and took up the job.

Kevin is my best friend. Even though I say "I hate you" to him every opportunity that I get, I've grown to love the little bugger. Don't tell anyone that I said this, but I kind of wish that he was my actual cousin instead of my pretend cousin. He's the only one who will drop anything to go swimming in the odd hours of the day when everyone else had their fill. Which is precisely what we were doing at this given moment.

While the kids were up on the HD wasting away the day the adults were sitting on the beach engaging in conversation. I have no idea what they were talking about because I have yet to act like an adult long enough to fit in with their gang. And also I was out on the raft conversing with my cousins. Sooner or later the adults figured out that the water was the place to be and be seen, so they waded in just past the shallow end. They didn't make it as far as the raft, but that is to be expected because adults aren't really welcome here. Sorry parents. Kids only. Deal with it.
