Afterglow 2011 - Day 2 Sunday

Every year I say that I'm going to take a boat ride. And every year I forget to do it. I should just do it on the 1st or 2nd day like these kids did. I probably would have joined them if they weren't already over the boat capacity limit that was outlined in the Red Book. These kids really push it to the limit and Rez proved that he was the perfect gentleman by esquiring these ladies around the lake. If I wasn't afraid of the sea I would have asked Rez to take me with him on one of his oceanic voyages. But instead I will stand upon the shore and gaze into the vast and distant abyss...

There's always something to do here and by week's end I always find out that I forgot to do all of them. Luckily I live vicariously through everyone else there which allows me to check every activity off of my to do list. Today Jenny + the gang were going for a boat ride. Check.

Jenny, Kelly, Susie and Rez were going to sail the mighty seas but scurvy landlubbers like Kevin and I were more comfortable on dry land. I think we made the right choice. All of the beverages were here. Those suckers out there will run out in the near future.

I've run out of things to say about Kevin and Brian. I've called them majestic, goofballs, life partners, weirdos, rambling idiots, visionaries, poets, revolutionaries, singers, ranters, cousins and friends. I could probably come up with a few more if I had the time, but it's already late January and it will be 176 days until we're up there again as I am writing this. I have to get this up online before we go there again.

Once you get the party started the guests just keep on arriving. And once they get there they expect you to treat them well. The music keeps bumping, the hors d'oeuvres get passed around and the drinks keep flowing. It may be morning-ish, but it was still time for a beer.

A dip in the HT is customary after spending even just a minute in the BP. We do it so much that we forgot that there are rules for entering the HT. Like rule #3 - we're always under the influence of alcohol so technically we should never be allowed in there. But we do it anyway.

At Afterglow two things are true - it's always beer thirty and it's 5 o'clock somewhere. That may not be what you wanted to read (Mom) but this place is an escape from real life where we have responsibilities and we can't roll out of bed and pour ourselves a drink. This is a place where you can relax with family and let it all go and just be yourself. There's a reason this place is called paradise. I just hope that everyone else realizes it because something like this doesn't come around that often and you will miss it if it's ever gone. Lord I hope that never happens.
