Afterglow 2011 - Day 4 Tuesday

Catching a balloon filled with water is a whole lot harder than it sounds, That is why you have so many explosions and why people stand by with their cameras ready to capture the moment when it busts all over you. Pete has been doing this for years and he has the timing of his camera down to a science. Most of the pictures that are framed and timed perfectly are courtesy of him. So thanks Pete for giving me some material to properly inform the masses. Everyone has their moment of embarrassment and in the water balloon toss no one is exempt. NOBODY!!

Tommy probably has the best hands out of all of us save for James. Tommy is the quickest and most athletic and if memory serves me correctly was the only one to actually catch a balloon. The only reason that he takes the top spot over James is that James' hands are rough and callused after living life in the real world. To catch a water balloon properly you need soft hands. I'm not saying that James still doesn't have soft hands, it's just that Tommy's are softer.

I never said that I was smooth except when I'm with the ladies. That's why I'm falling backwards with my mouth agape as the balloon bursts on the ground below my hands. I was not able to grab hold of the balloon just like I'm not able to grab hold of reality in L.A.T. But like everything I do I at least promise to put on a show and entertain the gathered audience. I've figured out my purpose on this Earth and I will make you laugh. Count on it.

Jenny and Kevin were happy despite not catching any balloons and not helping out the team in this event. But they will sleep soundly tonight because they both bring all of the intangibles that cannot be counted towards time off in an obstacle course challenge. A team is not always measured by its' literal success.

My throwing partner was James and I would like to say that we have some pretty good chemistry. After all, I've known him for my entire life. And James? Well he's known me since before I was born. But since we didn't really stand to gain anything by catching any balloons I threw it to him overhand like a pitcher and he squatted to receive it like a catcher. It didn't work out so well because the speed of the balloon when it impacts his hand is too fast to preserve the integrity of the outer membrane. It's all physics and science and shit.

James and Melissa make a pretty good team but their success is better measured within the home than on the water balloon toss field. They too failed to subtract any time from our overall performance. That's ok because we still all love them.
