Afterglow 2011 - Day 3 Monday

It's nice to hear how many years everyone else has been coming up here but I know I speak for all the cousins when I say we all look forward to Uncle Greg's speech. His number of years is so inflated that we joke that he's been coming up since before he was born.

Every cabin gets their little moment in the spotlight and some just state the facts while others grab their bellies and relish in the moment. Some stories are better than others and some families grow more and more every year as people get married and have babies. I don't remember too much from that evening but I'm pretty sure that I spoke up for Cabin #2 because Mom was too emotional to do it. I don't know why she chose me because I was pretty drunk at the time and most likely rambled incoherently about our family. She must have run out of all the other options.

The family that we bring to Afterglow is so big that we can't all fit at a few tables when we are gathered together. We needed to spread out and Brian hung out with Kevin on the bench. But he let his presence be known by Starting the Revolution and being seen.

Brian and Kevin are inseparable and they seem hell-bent on proving it at every giving moment. And they certainly bring the goofy too. There's probably a lot more that they bring to the table but I'm too busy being spellbound by they're beauty. Brian rocks the hair and tie-dye like no other and Kevin can make a cartoon groundhog look like the best fashion accessory since snap bracelets. I honestly don't know how they do it.

We look forward to the Pot Luck Dinner on Monday night. Not only is there a variable smorgasbord of food but also everyone in the resort is gathered in one place at one time. It gives you the chance to see everyone who you haven't seen since last year and play catch up.

Check out these two plate of food and see if you can notice the difference. Are you stumped? Then I'll lay it down pretty thick for you to get stuck in. My plate is on the left and is filled with meat products. Jenny's plate is on the right and is filled with veggie products. I'm a carnivore and she is a herbivore. I don't know how she does it because all of that goodness like ham. pigs in a blanket and meatballs is just so hard to pass up. Why would you ever turn your back on your animal instincts? If your animal instincts tell you to eat plants then have at it I guess...

The Pot Luck dinner is always a huge hit with the crowd and I can see why Pete and Gail keep doing it every Monday night. You get so much more out of it than what you put into it. Take me for example. I didn't bake or bring anything and I got a giant plate of food. Sounds like a winner to me. But the Moms (Kris, Sandy and Maria) brought their share of the food or else this shindig wouldn't have gone down as a success. We owe them all for this bountiful feast. Remember that one the next time you see them or when you are saying your prayers. They cured our hunger.

The family completely dominates the bench and the area closest to the food table which is smart for a number of reasons. First off there is more space out there to spread out. Secondly you are right next to the food so you can cut in line if all else fails. Pure genius they are.
