Brewers vs. Twins in Minnesota 2007 - Game 2

Some of my friends from Milwaukee had also made the trip up here, so I left Mike for a minute to go and hang out with these fine people. From the left to right, we have Treichel, Casey, Denise and Lorge. I met them all through beer pong, and they are all good friends.

It was another full crowd here at the Metrodome, but it still was short of a sellout. I heard that they only sell this joint out during the playoffs, which isn't very hard to understand considering that it is not a very good place to watch a baseball game. The one nice thing that I liked about it though was the fact that it was LOUD in there, especially when the "Let's go Brewers!" chants rang out from the upper deck.

Last year, I got a picture of myself flipping off the Metrodome because it really screwed over the Brewers. This year, I gave two thumbs up in front of it because with the victory tonight, it guaranteed a series victory and gave the Brewers a chance for the sweep tomorrow. I repeatedly call this place a hole, and although it isn't the greatest stadium in the universe (it rank near the bottom half for sure) it really isn't as bad as I make it out to be, I certainly can think of worse places to spend the evening. Places like dark alleys, the bottom of the ocean, and in my spaghetti come to mind right way. I'm sure that if I had more time, I could think of places that sucked more than this domed building. The nice thing about it is that you never have to worry about there being a rain out. That bodes well for people like me who make the 5 hour drive North to check out a weekend of games. I'd hate to get up here after using up all that gas only to find out that the games have been postponed die to inclement weather. That would suck more than this stadium does.

We sat out in the leftfield section of the general admission seats, which really aren't that good since the seats are angled to face the 50 yard line (for Minnesota Viking football games) and not home plate (which traditional baseball stadiums do). I had to crane my neck towards home, which only made me hate this stadium more.

Lorge was getting hyped up in the cheap seats, and the Minnesota fans were getting pissed. They kind of had a right to, seeing as how the Brewers invaded their territory and took over as the home team. Every time we did "Let's go Brewers!" chants, they booed us. But there was really nothing they could do to stop us.

Derrick Turnbow used to be one of the elite setup men in all of baseball, and at the time of this picture, he had a 3.86 ERA. During the latter half of 2007, he totally broke down and became a liability on the field. Things didn't get better in 2008, as he quickly found himself in AAA to work things out. But this headcase continues to struggle, and I doubt he'll ever pitch for the Brewers again.

This game was a little closer than yesterday's game, and the final score was Brewers 5, Twins 2. Today's game was nothing spectacular, but it was a win. And a win always counts as a W in the win column and gets us that much closer to a winning season. And it's one more win towards our first winning season since 1992.

Francisco Cordero was one of the top closers in the National League in 2008, and we all know now what that got him - a huge payday and the chance to sit on his ass and never pitch in save situations for the last place Cincinnati Reds. That's a good call CoCo - go from a perennial contender to a last place garbage team.

Mike and I were supposed to go out around town and do things this morning, but we stayed out late and basically sat around all day watching movies until it was time to go to the game. Once inside, I got a tall Leienkugal's Honey Sunset, which really hit the spot.

Home

Oh what a difference a year makes. Back in the summer of 2007, we had arguably the best late inning tandem in the majors. Matt Wise pitched the 7th inning, and he was sporting a 3.34 ERA. I still think that Wise had one of the best changeups in the league. It's a shame that he was never able to recover from hitting Cincinnati's Pedro Lopez in the face and breaking his cheekbone.
