Afterglow 2005 - Day 3
I make believe a whole lot. In fact, I do it so much that Mr. Rogers should have sent trolley to check up on me and King Friday. But one thing that I never pretend about is being good at sports. There's no point in doing that.
Gary always throws the defense for a loop because he is one of few in the Afterglow Baseball League who bats left handed. This stirs the lonesome right field, who up unto that point was trying to avoid being bitten by bugs.
The entire gang gathered on the bench, but we all brought our blurry faces. Seriously, there's nothing wrong with my camera, the photographer just asked everyone to pretend like their caught on camera for America's Most Wanted.
Afterwards, my Uncle Gary and Aunt Cari magically appeared. I had no idea that they would be there, so it was a nice surprise. He hit some fly balls to the faithful few in the outfield who stuck around for more baseball.
I was playing deep right-center field, hoping for a little action. James played closer towards the infield, and ended up catching the majority of the balls. I guess it was all for the best, because I'm not that good as sports, and James is like the Bo Jackson/Deion Sanders of Afterglow sports; not only can he play all of the them, but he outperforms the competition and looks good in the process. I'm proud that he's in my family and not on the other team. Go Team Reck!
This is quite possibly the best day of the entire week. On Monday evening, we get together for a grand pot luck dinner. Every cabin brings 1 or many things to share, and we all feast. Everything there is magically delicious, and kids like Gary, Tim, Kevin and I go for 2nds and even sometimes 3rds, depending on the availability of the "good" foods. I say it like that because everything there is awesome, but there are some things that just rise above the competition. It's an eating tradition that we have that rivals Thanksgiving, which is viewed as the greatest of all time.
After filling our stomachs with various yummy things, we rested for a while before participating in evening athletic competition. Monday night is one of the few nights that we actually play a full round of Afterglow volleyball. It's always easier because everyone in the resort is already down by the lodge, and it's easy to round up some quality players. Most other days, everyone's too busy doing whatever to care that 6:30 is volleyball time. With our tummys full, we got together and drove off to the casino once again. I know that this was my 3rd time in as many days, but I can't help it because I'm an addict. Hey, all of these kids talked me into it, I didn't instigate...I SWEAR!
