World Series of Beer Pong 5 - Day 1 |
Billy, Duncan and Skinny are amazing. Everything that they have done to build this beer pong empire is unreal. I am lucky to have had the distinct pleasure of watching this tournament grow for the beginnings in Mesquite to the grand scale of the Las Vegas Strip. |
Waiting for the tournament to begin is really nerve racking. Today is when everything starts getting serious because now you actually have something on the line ($50,000) and something to lose (dignity, respect, street cred, etc.) But that's what makes the WSoBP great. |
Eric Welch is another one of those guys who has been around for ever. I don't think he was there for Year 1, but he's been on our side (and I've been on his) since we first randomly met on a beer pong table in his hotel room Year 2. The best thing about this event is getting to see these people you only get to hang with once a year. |
In celebration of the 5th anniversary of this event, they made up these cool photo collage banners showcasing each of the years. I was more interested in years 1 + 2 because that is when myself and the rest of the CHBPL got the most coverage. Because that was when we were good at beer pong. As time went on and we got busy with jobs, girls, and other things, beer pong kind of took a back seat. In years 3-5 we weren't very impressive out there. But even though we may have faded from the spotlight, we'll always have those first two years to look back on. |
I'll blame alcohol on this one. I don't remember the names of these guys nor do I remember where they are from. But I took their picture because I loved their team name and their shirts. If you haven't seen it, Stavi is a character in the Johnny Knoxville movie The Ringer. This will make more sense if you see the film. |
The tournament structure is supposed to be random, and for the most part it is. But since there are a good amount of people that keep on coming back every year, eventually you will have to play someone that you are friends with. Such was the case for Brodey and Casey who had to play Matt and Doug. Too bad it happened. |
I've always been a firm believer that the 1st game sets the tone for you entire day. The first game is a must win. If you win you start to relax and play loose. If you lose, then you feel like every game is like an elimination game and your back is against the wall. Kanz and I lost game 1, which unfortunately laid our path in WSoBP 5. |
