World Series of Beer Pong 5 - Day 1 |
Beer pong is a game that is primarily played at night. And when I play beer pong I am used to having a few drinks in me to keep me loose. That's not a problem when it is nighttime, but unless you are an alcoholic, it's kind of tough to drink heavily in the morning. But I buckled down and down and did it for the greater good of all parties involved in this quest, as did Kanz. When we were nice and liquored up, we went downstairs for the main event. We got our picture taken again, but this time we were in our recognizable beer pong gear which could only mean one thing - we were ready to play. |
Last year our room overlooked the gardens and pools of the Flamingo on the inner portion of the hotel. This year we were on the outer part of the building and we got a nice look at the Bellagio and the CityCenter. I couldn't really care less what view we had. |
There is a lot of pressure when competing for $50,000 in the WSoBP. You have to find a way to relax and try not to think about what is at stake. There are many ways to alleviate the pressure, but for me and Kanz it's all about getting a little liquid courage in our systems. |
I can't remember when I met Lester, but he's one of my favorite beer pongers. He plays the game because he loves beer pong. I swear that this kid doesn't do anything else but play. In fact, there was a time when he was unemployed and all he did was play at tournaments. That must have been nice. I wouldn't know... |
I do remember Jamie "The Champ". If you've ever seen the beer pong documentary "Last Cup" then you are all too familiar with one of the greatest people and competitors that I have ever known. His recent health struggles stopped him from coming to year 4, but he was back for year 5 and ready to regain his title as The Champ. |
Normally I don't practice before an official beer pong game. I like to get all liquored up and go in cold. I don't know why but I always feel more comfortable taking my shots only when they mattered. But when I saw The Champ practicing in the warm up area, I threw my routine out of the window and decided that I just had to play on his team. We asked some other dudes if they wanted someone to play against, and Champ and Iceman emerged victorious with the Ice being Nice on the kill shot. I got to play with a legend, but I also felt good about myself as well. |
I know for sure that I've known Mike since World Series of Beer Pong II. I can't remember if he was there year 1. But him and his partner Baker form the team IWC (the Iron Wizard Coalition) who almost won WSoBP 3. It took an amazing comeback from Chauffeuring the Fat Kid to beat them. Good to see Mike again. |
I may not know how long I have been friends with Mike, but I do know that Brodey and I have been friends for longer than I can count. I even served as an intern at BrodAmerica Enterprises during one of the most productive semesters of my college career. I was glad Brodey decided to come out here for a 5th year. |
