Nick V (left picture, formerly of Team France, winners of the 1st WSoBP) has become one of my good friends that I have made courtesy of beer pong. I've hung out with him a lot recently during many trips to the land of evil (Chicago) for beer pong tournaments, and I count him among my allies in beer pong. There was so much going on out here that I didn't get to hang with him much out here, but I'm sure that I'll see him soon. There are going to be so many satellite tournaments this year it's going to be ridiculous. Mike and Baker (right picture) are two other allies in beer pong, and I also did not get to spend a lot of time talking to them. You really don't understand how crazy and wild everything is out here until you take part in it. There's so much commotion that if you don't actively seek out the people you want to catch up with, you'll miss them for sure and lament not putting aside the time. But I guess for now, there's always next year...

We ended the day on a good note, as we won game 6 and improved our Day 1 record to 5-1. I should have been happy, and although I kind of was, I know from experience that your Day 1 record really doesn't mean shit if you don't back it up with a solid, if not identical Day 2 record. Things were looking pretty good, but I knew that the elusive Day 3 was still looming in the future. Since there are now well over 400 teams, there are no guarantees on what kind of record you need to make Day 3, so we just had to win them all tomorrow and hope for the best.

I stuck around as long as possible to see the updated standings, and Skinny was working diligently to get them updated. After what seemed like a half hour of waiting, I was fairly confident that we finished in the top 100. The last update showed us when we were 4-1, and we were in 84th place out of 414 teams. We added a win to that to finish at 5-1, and I could only hope that it would jump us up a few spots on the leaderboard. Unfortunately I would have to wait until tomorrow morning to see where we ranked in ranked in the world of beer pong. But my utmost thanks and appreciation goes out to Skinny and the rest of the Bpong staff for their tireless work and effort. Real classy event here.

After all the excitement of Day 1, our bodies needed some sustenance in order to keep going throughout the night. After all the booze-filled hoopla that has gone on today, I know that I was ready to just sit and rest and eat some junk food. Thankfully Balkman, Treichel, Lorge and Casey all wanted to eat as well, so we all went over to O'Shea's, where they have a food court with plenty of options. I rocked some Burger King, and all was well again.

I count Michael Nelson Balkman among my dear friends, and like my other dear friends, there are times when I love him, and times when I hate him. This was one of the times that I loved him. Except for the glasses. See, Balkman doesn't wear glasses, so these were for aesthetic purposes only - the lenses are just plastic and are not prescription. Why does he do it? Who knows. I gave up trying to figure out M Nelson Balkman years ago.
