World Series of Beer Pong 2 - The Drive There

It's times like this when I hate being on a time constraint. If I had to do it all over again, I would have taken my time driving so that I could have stopped and checked out stuff at Hoover Dam. The drive to it from Arizona was adventurous, and once we reached the peak of the mountain, this site was there waiting for us. We were in a hurry to get to Mesquite, but I did stop to take a couple of pictures.

I always go by the rule breaker that states if you're gonna go, you might as well go all out. I also follow the balls to the walls way of thinking, which explains why I am on the wall when it clearly states please keep off wall. I understand the helpful pleasantries, but I needed this picture for personal and professional purposes.

This picture was taken primarily so that I could send it into the Milwaukee Brewers so they could add it to their "Your Brewers are Here" campaign. Basically you have to have your picture taken wearing Brewers gear in front of a famous place or landmark and they will put them on the scoreboard or online. I never sent it in.

The Hoover Dam truly is a majestic feat of human engineering. I spent a minute looking over its Wikipedia entry and was fascinated enough to learn more. I hope I run across a documentary about it on the History Channel or National Geographic soon, because if I don't I'll have to resort to watching Beavis and Butthead Do America and Vegas Vacation. Either way I think I'll be ok with everything.

This stretch of highway is extremely dangerous because it was built in the 1930's when there weren't a lot of people traveling between Phoenix and Las Vegas. Highway 93, which passes on top of the Hoover Dam, is the only way to get from one place to the other. That is why they don't allow people to goof around in this treacherous mountain passage. A giant bypass bridge is being built (scheduled for completion in 2010) but until then people will have to navigate these high and narrow roads.

The kids weren't very happy with this delay (I kind of forced them to stop here and check things out) because we were so very close to our destination. It was about 30 miles to Las Vegas, and another 85 to Mesquite. They were anxious to get out of the car and into the  hotel and get this beer pong tournament underway.

We stopped for gas once again (for those of you who will be attempting this trip someday it costs a lot of dollars to get out to Mesquite for the WSOBP whether you are driving or flying, so start saving your dollars now) and switched drivers. I'm pretty sure that I took over because I was driving when we reached our 2nd to last landmark before Mesquite - The Hoover Dam.
