The ride back home didn't start very well, and things seemed to be getting worse when we stopped for gas in the middle of the night in New Mexico. Along the way, we mist have ran over what was left of a sagebrush and trapped it in the front of our car. I have no idea where we picked it up, but Balkman was certainly happy that we had it now. In fact, he pulled it out of the car and held it proudly in front of him and posed for a picture. Neither the sagebrush nor the Balkman were pretty in the eyes of the elite, but they are both pretty in the eyes of God.

These pictures and the video on the previous page really fail to illustrate the difficulties that Hummel was facing while he was driving. We could barely see in front of us, and this salt truck was kicking up all sorts of debris onto our windshield. Every time that we tried to pass a slow moving truck, another one was right there in the right lane waiting for us. There wasn't a whole lot of traffic on the road in the middle of the night, but what traffic that was there combined with the weather conditions really slowed down our travel time. I'm just glad that I wasn't the one who had to put up with the poor driving conditions. I sat in the passenger seat and half closed my eyes every time we passed a truck.
