Brewers vs. Twins in Minnesota 2009

I stopped every time that there was a rest stop and took a 15 minute power nap. This driving thing was a little new to me. I tried talking to myself, but I annoyed the shit out of myself, and had to shut myself up. Since I was no longer talking to myself, the remainder of the trip was filled with awkward silence.

While driving along I-94 Eastbound, I came across a familiar and very welcome building - beautiful Miller Park. I love Miller Park a whole lot, and I'm not saying that just because it is the home to my Milwaukee Brewers. I say it cause I've been to a good share of Major League Ballparks, and Miller Park is up there at the top.

I haven't had a car for about 2 years now since it died. During this period, my driving skills and comfort behind the wheel has greatly decreased. I used to be able to drive all night on cross country roadtrips without stopping once. Now I'm lucky to go 2 hours without the need of a pit stop to get more caffeine and stretch my legs. This 6 hour drive back to Milwaukee would be a testament to my late night driving skills. I was good for the first hour, then I started to fail miserably. It was then that I consumed some of that 5 Hour Energy crap, which did absolutely nothing to keep me awake. The next thing I knew, all of the windows were open and my shirt was off. You looked shocked. How the hell do you think I felt? I felt violated, that's how I felt. But it was necessary to stay awake if I was going to make it home alive.

I got back into Milwaukee around 5:30am, and was really looking forward to getting a few hours of sleep before I had to be in to work at Miller Park at 11:00am. There was just one problem - the power windows on my rental car would not roll back up. I had them down all night so that I could stay awake, and somehow I must have blown a fuse. So instead of sleeping, I waited for the Auto Parts store to open, because I didn't want to leave a rental car sitting on the streets of Milwaukee with the windows wide open. I'm smarter than that. Bunch of savages in this town. I finally purchased a new fuse, then drove to work. I was tired as shit and wearing my glasses, so of course coworkers and season ticket holders all felt that they had to make a comment about the way I looked. I wasn't upset, because I knew I looked like garbage. The game didn't help me to stay awake though, as it ended up being a pitching duel between Yovani Gallardo and Chris Carpenter that saw Bill Hall win games in the 10th inning with a walk-off single. As a baseball purist, I normally like those games, but today was a different story. I was in real rough shape during the game, but Bill Hall winning games again was enough to get me hyped back up again.

So the Brewers got swept over the weekend by the Twins, but they started this homestand right with a walk-off victory. I had a great time up in Minnesota, much like I always do. When I'm hanging out with Mike + Katie (and now Reese), everything (even a Brewers loss) is entertaining. It sure is nice to have people like that in my life, I just wish there was a way that we could spend some more time together. But since they're up there and I'm down here, I guess we'll just have to enjoy the shit out of what little time we can spend together. Worst comes to worst, I'll see them again around Christmas, then again next summer when I head up to Minneapolis to see the Brewers and Twins play at brand spankin' new Target Field. Let's just hope the game isn't rained/snowed out when I'm there in late May/early June. Cause then I might reverse my thinking and wish we were back in the Metrodome. Oh God, please don't let that happen.
