Kids love the balloon toss because kids like to throw things and kids like to break things. It's very rare when you get to combine those two things into one. For every balloon caught, a few seconds of time is shaved off of your Obstacle Course time. Our time was so incredible horrid that no amount of caught balloons could save us from finishing in last place.
