Afterglow 2009 - Day 6 Thursday |
Jenny Reck and Susie are very close in age. They are both girls and they are cousins. Based upon that set up alone, you are correct to assume that they are are similar. So it comes as no surprise that they hung out a lot growing up. Some things change but others do not, and Jenny and Susie stay close even to this day. |
From the look on his face, Tommy was indifferent about video + awards night. It's not too hard to identify with his feelings. This night used to mean something around here, and then something happened - I grew up. And awards night wasn't that fun anymore. |
I'm not sure if I had already made it clear that I don't believe a pairs team of Jimmy Macelroy and Chazz Michael Michaels err.. Seth and Shrek-oaf should be crowned horseshoe champions. It goes against everything that this sport is based upon. But Mom and I did get ribbons for placing second in the competition. |
Team Revolution may not have been the fastest team to complete the Obstacle Course. In fact, I would wager every dollar in my wallet that we were the slowest team in the history of Afterglow. But we were the only team to wear sombreros, and we looked damn good while doing it. If that doesn't get an award, I don't know what does. |
All of the good seats were taken, so I was left with the cheap seats on the stone mantel next to the fireplace. If there was a fire roaring in the place, it would have been the best seat in the house. But instead I had to sit on cold stone and watch the video. But it wasn't all bad. I had front row seats to watch our dismal failure... |
But I do know that the looks on these kids faces are in fact genuine. Each one of the kids are showing their true colors, and that's what I love most about them. Once again, I do feel bad for making an example out of Susie but that's how I felt at the time. At the time? That was 3 seconds ago. Well gosh, a lot's changed since then. |
There was a time in Timmy's life when it was physically impossible to separate him from baby blue (the hat he is wearing). I swear to God, he even wore that thing in the summer. So it was no surprise to anyone when he placed it atop of his sombrero. Oh Baby Blue. |
But looks like Susie was a big fan of video + awards night. Or at least she put on a hell of a face that showed she did. Maybe she was thinking about something else exciting, like when actors think about their childhood dog dying when they need to shed tears. I'm not accusing her of being fake, just saying she shouldn't be that happy. |
Even though we had our own team, Kevin and I fulfilled our contractual obligation to be the mascots of the Mexican Burrito Racially Insensitive Kids Making Fun of Other Cultures Team. Or whatever they were called. Regardless of their name, we still stood behind them while they accepted their Obstacle Course award. |
The video was now over, which means that the kids were free to go about their own ways. But instead of scattering, they stuck around and hung out for a little bit. That just goes to show how close we are. We could be anywhere, but we'd rather hang out with family. |
Hey Tommy! The video is that way! Why are you looking at me? These goofball kids just don't get it. I know I'm kickass, but the real action is at the front of the the room. Sit back, relax and watch yourself get owned by a bunch of little kids in the Obstacle Course. |
As we get older, we participate in fewer activities. That results in less screen time for us on video night. But that doesn't give any of us (cough... Kevin.. cough...) the right to fall asleep during the video. It is our duty as the Afterglow semi-elders to stay awake and support the youngins on their quest towards video night glory. |
