Brian and Kevin don't try to hide their relationship as life partners. These two kids do everything together, and have way too much fun while doing it. At first I was smitten with the joy and exuberance beaming from their faces, but sometimes it gets to be a little bit too much. Life partners (when they are two dudes) are supposed to be as close as possible without being gay. Brian and Kevin are on the borderline on this one, and I would not be surprised to find out they took their relationship to the next level. Not going to happen, but I wouldn't be surprised.

One such paring that has tasted sweet victory in years past is the pairs team of my Mom Kris and myself. My count is always a little off, but I think that we have made it to 3 championship games and won 2 of them. Sure, I'm sure that those 2 victories have come by default, but a win is a win in my book. My blue ribbon at home says champion, even if some people claim that we didn't earn it. My Mom treats me like a baby and carries me the whole way, but this is one of the few times where I'm not complaining. I'll do whatever it takes to earn the W.

Some classic horseshoe partners have developed over the years, and for some people it has ended in victory and for some it lasts for one game a year. Timmy and Susie are in the latter category. But I'll be darned if those kids don't have the most fun that any young adults can have playing an old folks game. I look forward to watching their games, because you just never know what to expect from these kids.

Back in the olden days when I was a kid at Afterglow. I wasn't allowed to play horseshoes because it was an adult game. Then as the adults got older and started having kids, the child population at Afterglow tripled, so they had to let the kids get in on the action. At first they only allowed male/female team combinations, but they have since opened it up to all participants. Thanks to the laxation of the rules, these kids were now able to play whereas in years past they would have just watched. Stacy and Stefani faced off against Tommy and Jenna. I called it the futures game because it offered a glimpse at the next generation of horseshoe players. Tommy and Jenna would ultimately win.

Woke up in the morning partied out once again. Needing some grease to recharge the batteries, I used the leftover garlic bread that I didn't cook the other night and made some sweet french bread pizzas. While I enjoyed my delicacies, the rest of the kids came over to hang out. Apparently they had raged it too hard last night on the KK, because once they entered the cabin they hit the floor and it was lights out from there. They must have looked at Uranus too much or exhausted themselves shooting sparklers at each other. Silly kids.

James is the best all around athlete that has ever graced the Afterglow sports world, so I made sure to get a little pre-game advice from him. His advice? He said remember, close only counts in horseshoes and hand grenades. I guess it's a good idea we were playing horseshoes, or else that wouldn't have helped me.

After beating his cousins in horseshoes by taking the "no mercy" approach, Tommy would have to go shoe-to-shoe with Mark Chapman, who is arguably the second best athlete at Afterglow behind James. It was a tall order, but Tommy would have no choice but to throw his heart out and go for the gold if he were to win.
